पुराने समय की बात है। आम की फसल के दिन थे। एक दिन अकबर बादशाह अपनी बेगम के साथ बैठकर आम खा रहे थे। बादशाह आम खा - खाकर उनकी गुठलियां और छिलकों को अपनी बेगम के आगे डालते जा रहे थे। अचानक बीरबल वहां आ पहुंचे।
बादशाह ने बीरबल को वहां देखकर मुस्कराते हुए कहा , देखो बीरबल यह बेगम कितनी पेटू है। में अभी तक एक आम भी नहीं खा पाया हूँ और इन्होंने कितने आम खा डाले।
बेगम इस मजाक का उत्तर नहीं दे पायीं और लजाकर रह गई। बेगम बीरबल के सामने बहुत ही शर्मिन्दा हुई।
बड़ी शर्म के साथ बेगम बीरबल की तरफ देख रहीं थी।
इतना सब कुछ देखने के बाद बीरबल से भी चुप नहीं रहा गया , और बीरबल ने फ़ौरन बादशाह को उत्तर दे डाला
जहाँपनाह कुसूर के लिए मांफी चाहता हूँ। " बेगम साहिबा अधिक आम खाकर छिलके व गुठलियां तो छोड़ देती है। पर हुजूर आप तो उन्हें भी नहीं छोड़ते , क्योंकि आप के सामने तो गुठलियां भी नहीं है। हुजूर आप तो आम के साथ -साथ गुठलियों को भी खाते जा रहे हैं।
यह सुनकर बादशाह का मुँह बन्द हो गया और बेगम खुश हो उठीं।
It is a matter of old times. Those were the days of mango harvest. One day the emperor Akbar was sitting with his begum and eating mangoes. The king was eating mangoes and putting his kernels and shells in front of his begum. Suddenly Birbal arrived there.
Seeing Birbal there, the emperor smiled and said, Look, Birbal how gourmet this begum is. I have not been able to eat even one mango yet and how many mangoes they have eaten.
Begum could not answer this joke and was ashamed. Begum was very embarrassed in front of Birbal.
With great shame Begum was looking towards Birbal.
After seeing all this, Birbal was not even silent, and Birbal immediately replied to the emperor.
Jahanpanah wants forgiveness for saffron. "Begum Sahiba leaves the peels and kernels after eating more mangoes. But you do not leave them, because you do not even have kernels in front of you. Hujur, you are eating mangoes along with mangoes.
Hearing this, the king's mouth closed and Begum was happy.
